Humm... I saw him on TV Mark. Pretty cool.
I dono DP. I saw Queen eons ago in support of Night at the Opera. It was among the most disappointing shows I've ever seen. Although Queen was a studio band in the first place and expected that, FM couldn't hit notes and changed important vocal lines accordingly as to what he could and couldn't do. It was so bad, nothing remotely resembled the original vocal melodies. It was an "I shoulda asked for my money back" show. Terrible and silly.

Fair points all... I figured I'd get some blowback on this grin I've never seen Queen and as I said earlier, I'm not and have never been a Freddi Mercury fan. I just figured I'd stir the pot a little. I don't think Marc is a bad singer by any means, he's clearly got a good voice and is able to hit some crazy notes - I just think the "channeling" Freddi thing is silly...

"I'm wondering how the singer for a straight-up Christian band that has thus-far shown very little stagemanship in these videos is going to emulate the prancing, spandex-clad, package-bulging, overtly-FLAMBOYANTLY-gay Freddie Mercury.

Yup...my thoughts exactly! wink

Hadn't seen the latest 'til this morning. It turns out Marc will be appearing on The Ellen Show this coming Monday.

I guess the thing I've always been struck by is Marc's (and the entire band, downhere 's) authenticity..... real-ness. What you see is what you get. These guys are pros, very funny, and very down to earth. Live they put on a killer show, whether to dozens or thousands. And within CCM they refer to themselves not as "worship music" but as a "devotional band". A very interesting distinction to Christians.

When tracking their last three albums I let the guys drive over and pack their cars with anything they wanted to use. They seem to love all the guitar toys and especially the 65 London. Additionally, Marc's voice with the Blue Catus was vocal magic.

When I consider that Marc's vidclip is live, without edits or tuning, as a single take, it is really uncanny. Another older friend of mine, who did a lot of BGV work with Freddie M (and J Beck, George Harrison, etc) back-in-the-day thinks Marc's unique in his ability to nail Freddie's lower registers - many folks have his top-end, but no one he's heard has the whole enire FM vocal enchillada.

And his looks are strangely similar..... maybe add some prosthetic orthodontia??

Don't forget, Canadian's are *much* funnier than Americans:

from The Montreal Gazzette
Daybreak’s Mike Finnerty talked to Martel Wednesday and the highlight of the interview was when Finnerty asked Martel how he felt – as a Christian artist – singing the songs of a totally wild, flamboyant, openly bisexual rock star. Martel, to his credit, didn’t miss a beat, replying, with tongue firmly in cheek, ‘Well it’s no problem because I’m bilingual’ – insert drum roll here! He then went on to say he didn’t have an issue with that at all.
