I've not used the MXL 4000, but I've used the MXL V69 a lot and I love it. Its right around the same price range and beats out a lot of the more expensive mics in the closet.

Hi all, thought I would add some info here. All MXL mics are designed in the USA at Marshall Electronics. The mics are manufactured in Marshall's own factory in Asia or here in the US like the M3 or V6. There are a number of similar models with different model numbers so that the retailers don't butt heads. Marshall Electronics is also the North America distributor for Mogami cable. They are not the same Marshall work makes guitar amplifiers.

FWIW, I've A/B'b a MXLV67G ($99) against a Manley Gold Reference mic. The differences were subtle. I didn't hear a $3000 difference. Not that the expensive mic wasn't fabulous, but the cheapie mics are getting really good.
