Check out the Inter-M R-Plus series at also the Bryston 2B LP Pro.
These are both convection cooled amps and work well with most monitors.

This is looking like a freaking amp catalog, with everyone posting their amp.

The 95% rule of thumb is that if an amp has a lot of heavy iron, it'll be good. Of course that's not the whole story, but it's pretty universal.

You also want one that doesn't have a fan to make noise.

Speaking of heavy iron, a nice inexpensive power amp is the old black colored JBL/Urei 6230 or 6260. The 6260 weighs about 75 or 80 pounds and is rated at 150 watts a side. They show up used for about 150 bucks because a) no one wants to lift them and b) everyone thinks 150 watts is to small for most applications especially when considering the weight. Did I mention they're heavy?
They spec and sound very nice and are basically bullet proof. Not a high end boutique amp but FMM a lot better than any similar rated QSC, Crown, Crest etc. and 1/2 the price or less.

Actually, I heard the Thetas on a pair of really high-end Martin Logans. Sounded pretty good. I use two 120W Manley mono amps in my room powering ProAc Studio 100s.

If NS10s are the real world monitors, then there is something wrong with the real world. Don't forget the Tara Labs tissue paper to hang in front of the tweeters. Geeezz, give me a break. Want real world monitors, tie in a boom box to your monitoring system, saying NS10s are real world is like saying Mc Donalds is real food.

I sold my NS-10s years ago because I hated listening to them, but I didn't have a good amp at the tme. Now I wish I had them again as a reference (although not enough to go out and buy them).

The thing about referencing speakers like that is that you have to work harder to get everything heard, Jeremy. Everything sounds good on your Genelecs because you can hear everything very clearly. That's not the case with NS-10s. Not only do they roll off at 80Hz or something ridiculous, they have a forward midrange, slow transients, and a limited dynamic range.

But I'm very happy with the Blue Sky System Ones and a pair of Crapoli 69 clear plastic computer speakers with subwoofer.

Right Nick, and we get to hear our mixes that way. I haven't a memory of liking them with any amp, though I understood thier need.

I just like Auratones better than the NS10s. I also like the idea of the clients saying "Thats not comming from the Auratones, is it"? I also like listening to FM on my 604s, heck, they are the tip of 1930s tech and FM hasn't gone very far from its concept, so they match really well. I can also play my roughs and hear an approxamation of the FM playback via that EQ curve.

I'm all for some simple speaker system to augment the Big Dogs that do most of the work. I want to hear my mixes on your speakers, thiers and everyone elses. Of course with the idea of creating and/or conferming a better mix.

Heavy metal/amps = transformers to me and I like that concept also. My best amp sugestion would be the FET Mac 2100 with the big blue meters. Warm, frendly and great mellow high end.

Hopi, when you buy these things, is the shipping outragous?

About a buck a pound I'd imagine.
I've yet to grab one online. The 4 that I have were purchased locally at $100 each.

Everything sounds good on the Genelecs, you can hear EVERYTHING clearly????? Nick, how long have you been in the business? Have you ever used Gens for a long period time?

I can't believe people actually believe this, because it's totally wrong. Gens are just neutral, if something sounds like sh it, you'll hear it loud and clear on the Gens.

They are as much of a challange as any other monitor with less guess work. I'm also using a pair of Dynaudio BM52a's and Awia bookshelf boom box system. Now they sound like s hit, the Awia, and are what people actually listen to music thru.

But plesae spare me the "genelecs make any mix sound good" crap, it's simply not true, period.
