Hi justin,
I downloaded your Mobius Donut files and had a few thoughts. I'm listening to Split right now. First thing I notice is the snare sounds for lack of a better word demoey. Your mix isn't the problem as much as it is the way the drummer is hitting. He's also very uneven with his (her?) fills and also his groove. No mixing is going to fix that. Editing - Maybe. I'm also hearing alot of clicks. The bass player is slapping his strings between notes and the kick or a tom mic (minute 01:03) is
being hit. When these types of non studio-savy bands get to do a big budget production the producer may do any of the following: A. Make the drummer practice with a click like he's training for an olympic event- raw eggs, the whole bit. This includes hitting consistently. It also
sounds better when the snare's rim is being hit a little. B. Loop his ass. C. Get a different drummer for the recording.
I see three options for this tune: 1.redo the track 2.edit (you'll have your work cut out for you) or 3.just let it be what it is. NEXT
I hope I haven't bummed you out and even more important; I HOPE YOUR NOT THE DRUMMER! Then again I'm no Quincy Jones. I tell my friends: If you want to be succesful in music, don't listen to me.
Thanks for creating my favorite site.
