Digital Daily notes that Apple's market capitalization at $159.37 billion is now worth more than Google's which is at $157.56 billion. Apple's market cap first exceeded $100 billion in May of 2007. Apple was included into the S&P 100 index at that time. For interest, MacDailyNews compiled a list of the market values of other notable companies:
- Microsoft (MSFT) - $255,648,204,000 - IBM (IBM) - $169,964,678,000 - Apple (AAPL) - $157,012,662,240 - Google (GOOG) - $156,392,862,560 - Cisco (CSCO) - $142,125,692,160 - Intel (INTC) - $135,658,860,000 - Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) - $111,866,423,760 - Nokia (NOK) - $97,746,699,520 - Research In Motion (RIMM) - $71,143,935,000 - Disney (DIS) - $59,257,501,500 - Dell (DELL) - $50,483,256,060

I have a MBP and I do have Windows installed on the machine.
I have a very small Windows partition and only use it for SoundForge.
If someone could reccomend me a program like SoundForge for the Mac I would probably make the switch 100%.
I would bet most people that have Windows on their laptops simply have it so they can show their friends.
As far as Apple - I think the iPod made a lot of casual users switch platforms. Combine that with the fact that you now can dual boot and that the Mac is the more fashionable - in looks and pop culture - machine and I am not surprised they have sold a ton of them.
Nick - I know you were a Boston guy for a while. Now the old Copy Cop on Boylston (across from the Prudencial) is the largest Apple store in the US. It's pretty wild - but with Berklee right there they have 2000 customers right around the corner.

It would be interesting to know how many users actually do run Windows on them. My hunch is that fewer people than one thinks do - and I'm not saying that out of zealotry, but because you have to buy a copy of Windows to do that. I have Win XP SP3 running on my new MacBook Pro using Parallels. I don't use it for anything practical at all, but its on there.
If someone could reccomend me a program like SoundForge for the Mac I would probably make the switch 100%. Bias Peek, Rogue Amoeba Fission and Sound Hack are some editing/sound designing programs that I use. Do a Google of the names and you'll find some info. SH is free, Fission is pretty cheap, and Peek is a little pricey. The amount of things they do is in the same order.
