Yo, this conversation about monitoring in cars brings up something I've been putting off and need to deal with: CDs distort in my wife's car stereo. It's a stock BMW system with an aftermarket Alpine changer.

I haven't been able to find a car stereo place in the LA area where anyone knows one falking thing about this. First, none of these imbeciles even hear subtle distortion (which isn't so subtle to me or even my non-musician wife). Or they pretend to hear it and say that we need to add a $1000 graphic equalizer or new speakers to get rid of the problem.

Total wankers, in other words! And I'm not making this up.

Anyone know of a good car stereo repair place? I need to figure out if it's the changer that needs fixing, if it's an overloading issue that requires padding, or what. It's no secret to me that some CDs distort in car stereos simply because they're too hot.
