I just talked to a reliable guy who figured out that the first run of ADL-600's were wired out of phase! If you bought one you need to test it. He has some high end testing equipment that after he used one in a drum session he thought it sounded a bit funny and then he tested it and sure enough he was right. Presonus sent him another and sure enough also wired out of phase. The do have phase switches which when set to 'out of phase' puts them back into phase but I think its a more serious issue of some wires crossed in the internal scheme. I can't believe that a company like that would let a whole batch of pre's go out the door wired out of phase but if you have one I would check it. My friend thought many people probably have the bad batch and probably don't even realize it unless you happen to catch it in a mix or something.
just thought I'd give a heads up...

What does this have to do with American Idol auditions?

The manual says they're wired pin-2-hot, which is the conventional way.

Unless you're expecting pin 3 to be hot, then they must be wired wrong.

No seriously, this is my gear guy who I buy all my stuff through and even the rep who was getting him the units to test out said he thought there had to be a mess up along one of the assembly line chains where internally wires were being crossed. The VP of manufacturing called my buddy (Simon Cowell-hense the Idol connection) to thank him personally for running the tests and discovering the error. Funny thing was the VP said it was only a 'few units' that were faulty but the rep said he heard that my friend found a major error that effected a whole batch (who knows how many that is) of ADL-600s wired the wrong way.
I thought this interesting...
does anyone own one of these? rick?

In a fully balanced circuit that's patched inline, pin 2 or 3 hot doesn't really really matter (as with a mic cable).....As long as the the unit doesn't invert the signal from input to output.......

Why not? A miswired output jack is the same as a miswired cable. It will still flip the polarity of the signal.

Polarity is generally not a problem with most mono signals, but it sure counts for drum mics.
