A little off topic here but I trust the opinions of you guys.
My wife uses a laptop to playback up to 8 tracks via a Echo Layla interface to support her live performances. I'm constantly nervous of a laptop crash or worse still a component failure and so I'm looking for a back up system that supports .wav format. I know some people use iPODs for this purpose, in fact it saved the day for some friends on a UK tour recently when their equipment was stolen.
I'm just wondering what my choices are?
It needs to have a backlit LCD screen, be easy to read on stage so the characters can't be too small and ofcourse it has to sound good and be compatible with a PC.
Any of you got any suggestions?

Why am I looking to use one of these devices or why am I looking for something other than an iPOD?

Hey I'm just looking for some feedback on playing back .wav files on iPODs or any other device of this type. The typical user only utilizes the mp3 playback feature.

For instance, can I set up a playlist (set list) on a iPOD? Can I name that playlist anything I want to?

YES!! The iPod doesn't care about the file type. You could virtually setup a playlist mixing formats and have it work. It's all done within iTunes.

Mr. Jobs did a good job with this one!
