Hi Gang!
I've been working my other alter ego as Lou Reeds' Sound engineer for the last few months. I haven't been posting for a while.. I've been touring Europe..playing sold out shows.... mixing LIVE on 2 DA7 s... What a sucess story...all the songs in the set are stored as snapshots, I just recall each song "et voila".
No big racks of outboard proccessing, just 2 consoles....

I had the choice of any digital or analog console and went with the DA7's...they have performed flawlessly.....

I'll keep you updated....

Jeremy Darby

The band love the sound....

I was wondering where you were man! Thought you might have traded in your DA7 or something. I really can't imagine doing a
live gig with the DA7 simply because why do a D/A conversion if you don't have to? Unless your purpose is to record the show also.

I presume the automation and scene memory far outweighs the D/A issue.

Besides, we're talking about huge speakers in some stadium---who's going to hear extreme subtlety from the conversions?

But they *will* notice if the FOH mixer forgets to un-mute an important mike in a song!

How can you automate a live show? Do you run the DA7 off some time code device hoping they play exactly the same tempo and same
song arangement?

Actually, scene memory, probably not timecode automation. You're right---I could just see Lou Reed playing to a prerecorded click!

Yes indeed, scene library info etc....not automated mixing, but eq, gate and compression changes from song to song..... very neat.
As some of you know I also own a dreaded Mackie d8b, (from the company that promises but never deliver,) I cannot imagine relying on that, day in and dayout

Jeremy: I am very thankful for your posting on live mixing...one of the main reasons I bought the board..Could you please tell us some more on the whole setup?
a) did you use any of the internal dynamics at all (i.e. gates /expanders / compressors)?
b) what OS were you running?
c) any notable incidents related to the board?
d) any particular workaround / patches you may think are useful?

Thank you...
Paul

P.S. Sorry I didn't manage to catch any of the concerts "over here" (Switzerland)...Pls do give a buzz when you're around this side of the world...

WOW, Lou reed rocks!!!. Can you get me an autograph? I wouldn't mind laying a couple tracks with the dude. His poetry is amazing. It was all thanks to Delmore Shwartz who had taght his the soul of poetry. Yet bitter and wise, he ....did you eat all the jellies?

Hey, Jeremy are you going to be doing the Lou Reed show in Toronto? I think this is coming up soon - I hope it hasn't passed (have not checked the dates).
