This is Mark in Nashville....
I've tried to work with the PC version of Logic Gold 4.0, .2, .3, .4, .11, .14, and the latest .23 with varying degrees of failure. I understand if you're running Mac, it's a pretty good program, but I'm not able to get it to work on PC/Win 98. I'm using Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 digital out thru 2 Yamaha DS2416 cards into the 16 digital inputs of the DA7. I've got a MOTU MTPAV as the Midi interface, and I don't have any problems, except the fact that Cakewalk won't put out MIDI time code for automation.
If you're working on the PC platform, I can give you some things to try, but it's my opinion that Logic for PC probably will not work until version 4.5 or later.....

Mark in Nashville, I hope you're not saying that the whole program flat out doesn't work on the PC?! There sure are a lot of suckers out there if that's the case.

b3man, click on the Sync button on the transport window and open up the Synchronization window (hitting Y on my system calls it up, but I have Powerkeys installed, and that may have changed the default).

There you'll find an option to transmit MTC out any MIDI interface port you want.

Hi Nick....
I've been thru the mill and back on the Logic software, trying to run it on 2 different PC's with 2 different audio cards both analog and digitally and have never been able to get it to work reliably. The first system was a 233MHz Pentium with a Layla card that worked fine with Cakewalk and Cubase's demo. I changed sound cards to a Yamaha DS2416 after seeing it in operation at the NAMM show here in Nashville last year [it was at Yamaha's booth] The Cakewalk software ran fine with the DS2416 installed; the Logic ran a little better but would lose audio sync after 10-15 minutes of operation. So I thought it might be too slow a computer, as suggested by the tech guy at Logic. I upgraded to a Pentium III 450MHz with 384MB RAM, and once again the Cakewalk and Cubase demo worked; the only change in the Logic was that it crashed faster. I've not been able to reach tech support at Logic lately, partially because they just do e-mail reponses at this time and partially because I've got to make some money with this equipment and I don't make any troubleshooting the Logic product. Jeff Bohnhoff at Logic did finally admit that they have some issues with the DS2416 and audio sync, and that there are no plans to support 2 DS2416's, which is what I'm running in the current setup. I didn't mean to rant on this one; it's just that with the amount of time/energy/frustration invested in this, I'm used to resolving the problem.
[I've been a video engineer in broadcast for 28 years and currently service audio/video non-linear edit systems on both Mac and PC platforms] If anyone out there has had a positive experience with the Logic product on PC platform, I'd like to hear about it.....

I have Logic and Cakewalk loaded. I've been using Cakewalk ever since dos.

I'm trying to learn Logic as it seems a more sophisticated program.

As far as crashes go, Logic has been pretty stable so far. I haven't really pushed it much as I'm still pretty much bewildered by the program.

I'm glad to hear that someone has had success with the Logic PC program. I really like the feel of the MIDI side of Logic, as it doesn't seem to change the feel of what you play into it as much as Cakewalk does. [I'm able to run Logic as long as I have no audio enabled] What MIDI interface are you successful users using? I've got the MOTU MTPAV and I was wondering if anyone has made that particular interface work with Logic.

Just an update....
Logic Audio released version 4.5 this past week and it has cleared up the audio problems I've been experiencing using the Yamaha DS2416 card.... I'm still having a little trouble with sync and anchor points, but no crashes!!! Concurrently, they recommend using a new ASIO driver that Yamaha posted in April, and this combination seems to be working.....

Logic has on some occasions been buggy w/ Win98. For me 4.22 had issues. 4.5 is much more stable, especially the audio. I'm using 4.5 with 2 Pulsar cards and EASI. Lightpipe then whole thing into my MX2424 or direct to the DA7. I'm also using 2 Unitors (Mk II) and have had good luck using MOTU Micro Express as well. If you have problems with a particular version of Logic, go into your program files and launch an earlier version. Good Luck.......
