LOVE STORY, a two disc anthology of Love, the Arthur Lee band of the 60s

Steve Earle, EL CORAZON, can't beat the "twang trust"

SARAH VAUGHN, a 1959 session featuring Clifford Brown, Herbie Mann, Paul Quinichette and others. Incredible music from one of the best. Unbelievable trumpet work from Brown, who was another potential superstar taken from us before reaching the age of 30.

No special production feats here, folks, it's all about the song and the performance!

(WARNING- shameless plug) Oh yeah, also BEV BURTON, a gospel vocalist we're producing who writes some beautifully inspired songs, and also sings so sweetly (with power, too!)

Works in progres. And a few non comercial CDs of local bands I like in a pile in front of the CD recorder mixed in with CDs I need or needed to learn for gigs.

Street Corner Talking was recorded at the Olympic Studios in UK in the early seventies ('71 if I'm correct).
It was engineered by George Chkiantz and Rod Thear and produced by Neil Slaven.
The production was relatively tight for the early seventies. However most bands (esp. in UK) held pride in being able to record entire albums in extremely short periods (sometimes just a few days).
If the production was compared to todays standards it probably would be considered a bit sloppy. As a matter of fact, if you listen closely you may be able to hear a few flubs.
What makes the album great is the excellent material.
All in all, the album may just serve to remind me of what we've progressed from.

most recently played in winamp:

Tortoise - TNT
Mr. Bungle - California
Boards of Canada - Music Has a Right to Children
Stan Getz plays Joao Gilberto

Has anyone heard that Mr. Bungle album? I'd advise you all to check it out to see what one great reverb can do for an album. It's on par with Brian Wilson's talent for creating sonic density without fatiguing the listener--an amazing feat for a rockabilly/metal/eastern/psychedelic album. Also, having Mike Patton up front doesn't hurt.

Kevin have you seen Patty perform? Wow what a show. That little lady can sing for days and has such great character to her voice. I've seen her 3 times now and can't wait till shes back in LA. I sadly have never seen Tom Waits but been a big fan of his since Swoardfish Trombones album.

Anyway, I'm a major KG fan. He's the first guy that really forced me to listen to the lyrics!!!!

Other than that, I've got XM in the car and house and love it. The "BEYOND JAZZ" channel is awesome.

Eric,

As a matter of fact, Yes! I do own a copy of "Shaming Of The True".
I originally had (still do in CD & DVD) a copy of Toy Matinee.
After mentioning it here, I saw your recommendation of purchasing "Shaming Of The True" and "Thud".
What reinforced it is that I'm a huge fan of Gentle Giant as well. When I saw that Kevin had contributed "Suit Fugue" to a Gentle Giant Tribute CD, I immediately ordered the remaining Kevin Gilbert CDs. Excellent material, highly recommended.
Thanks.

Paul

Oh Yeah, For those who may be interested.

Shu, I've also got Toy Matinee on DVD-Audio. FULL 5.1 surround mix @ 96k/24bit.

XM, by the way, sounds GREAT! I've got the Polk reference receiver at home which claims a signal-to-noise FROM THE SATELLITE of >80dB! They say:
 Quote:
The Polk reference tuner uses a Burr-Brown DAC, widely regarded as the best sounding DAC and the one used in countless high-end digital surround processors.
I'm taking a SPDIF optical out straight into my receiver. It does sound awesome and the programming is great!

Info at POLK AUDIO.
