Looking for direction on the benefit of AardSyncII over ProTools as word clock source in conjunction with DA7.

I use ProTools24|MIX systm as source now and i am pondering the benefit of AardSyncII.

Be advised that my ears are very sensitive to digital artifacts. I think I am hearing clock jitter.

Any thoughts (Eric)?

Well Thomas, I've always felt that unless you have an external MASTER CLOCK like the AardSync, then the DA7 should always be the master. The console is the center piece for all ins and outs of your digital studio, the HEART if you will, and everything should be in sync with it.

My choice, as you obviously know, is the AardSync. I have individual, terminated runs of 75 ohm cable going to each digital device in my room... NO LOOP THROUGHS!!! If you need more feeds, either buy the Aardvark WC distribution amp, or use 'T' conncectors and terminate the last source.

We're in the midst of this very discussion on the Sonic Solutions users mail-list with a lot of frustrated people. I've had no problems once my system was setup correctly. I've got ADATs that come in, DA-88s and run AES to my Sonic... all in happy sync.

I can guarantee, too, that once you've put a stable clock on your ProTools system, you won't believe how much better your top-end will sound.

Thomas, it's got (2) AES outs and (3) WC outs plus 1 depending on if it's set to WC or Super-Clock for ProTools. If you need more than that, they have a distribution amp that has 4 more WC outs.

The 'T' connectors are basic BNC with one female and two males. Each WC out of the AardSync MUST be terminated with a standard 75ohm video terminator, i.e. resistor load. Most WC ins have a loop-through that the terminator can go on. More info at http://aardvark-pro.com/sync.html.

As far as cost, I don't remember what it was. I got mine from Advanced Systems Group in the San Francisco area. They're the same guys that interfaced Skywalker Ranch for Lucas in Marin County... they know their digital 'shit'! Ask for Randall Sanderson at (510) 654-8300... he'll take care of ya!
