Hello peeps, After reading a post from a little time back, I feel alittle funny posting this topic. The topic was on how the posts here are becoming redundant and boring. I don't post a lot for that reason, but I had to post this little tidbit because I AM A GEARSLUT. I wanted a mic locker after reading a past article in Recording mag about different budgets for mics in a labs locker.

I went crazy, but I'm happy. Here's what I picked up and my opinions after recording each mic in PTLE via the DA7 insert out- ApoGee Rosetta -DtoD (coax)-PTLE. I would love to go into PTLE Digital with AES but the Digi001 doesn't have it. All mics were treated fairly though.

So for those who care here's the line up:
BLUE Baby Bottle, BLUE Blueberry, AKG C3000B, CAD E-200, Shure SM94(yes 94), along with the AT4047SV and SE Electronics SE5500 TUBE, I already had.
I received the Blueberry today thinking it would sound like the Baby Bottle......NOPE. SWEET smoothe sheen with not a lot of lowend, so there's no need for a filter. If you want a little bottom, just add a little tube from a Avalon with a minimum bass boost and waaalaaa..I don't need a U87 anymore. Not to mention that my SE5500 rivals the U87 anyway and tops the TLM103 in my opinion.

I like the AKG C3000B also. Used it on background vocals last week on a male with excellent results. The female was using the SE5500 Tube by the way, and they sound GREAT together on some Tina Marie type backgrounds we were recording.

My least favorite acqisition was thw CAD E-200. Harsh sounding compared to the others, but if it was my only mic I wouldn't know any better. I had it once before and thought it was the greatest mic available...that was about 4 years ago. I picked it up for backgrounds using OMNI mode. It can be surrounded and I cam run it through the Avalon and add some STUFF to it. Still a nice piece to have for HIPHOP.

The Baby Bottle is what it is and sounded nothing like the BLUEBERRY. There's more range and sensitivity. I used it on a rapper and it bought the vocals out front like the MOUSE I had at one time. I like BLUE's and don't care to much about Neumann's anymore. To me there are other mics for less that can do the job, especially the BLUE's.

The Shure SM94 was a steal as far as I'm cocerned. Got it for $25 on the BAY. HAd my friend bring his much love SM58BETA over and the 94 blew it out. Though the 94 is a condenser and the 58 is a dynamic I thought the 58 would sound better. NOPE, the 94 has a nice high end to it, as oppsed to the 58 harsh and loud sound. I used the same trim level on the DA7 for both showing that the output level was the same. SM94 and I'm looking for more.

The AT4047SV is sweet just not a lot of highend, but good upper mids around 7-10kHz that does just fine on females for me. It's a FET design so you get a darker sounding mic, but with the nasaly singers that come through at times...this baby does the job, but so does the SE5500. I have a bud who had 2 U87's and he sold one. He's now getting a SE5500 maybe a couple. Don't sleep on the SE mics, they're HOTTT. Probably better sounding than the Studio Projects mics.

Here's my ranking in my locker:
1. SE5500 Tube, 2. BLUEberry, 3. AKG C3000B, 4.Baby Bottle, 5. AT4047SV(used to be my fav), 6. SM94, 7. E200.

Well that's all I have. I'm planning on posting NEW pics because I redesigned the vocal booth and added track lighting to the main room and added a restroom. Doing well, hope this finds everyone s BLESSED as I have been. Keep making those HITZ.and thanks for your encouragement throughout my joining the board, RaJ................Out....................
