My DA7 stopped seeing everything this afternoon. I run a modest Digi 002 Rack and a couple of MasterLinks. One of the MLs is my two track master, the other comes through a card. All the card slots show as if they're off on the D-I/O screen on the DA7, in other words, a diagonal line through them. The Wordclock Master Error Flashes on the lower right of the screen. I've checked all the connections and restarted everything. I'm not sure what to do next. Any help would be appreciated greatly. Thanks.

since all distributed WC systems require that only 1-device be the master and all other devices the WC slave it will require a rethink in your setup.

I have a digital external effects device that would not clock in any configuration. It's now connected via the analog I/O.

Try using the 002 as the Master with the mixer and all other device slaved via the mixer. Of course that require a configuration change in your P-tools setup.

Good luck,

Thanks, but how do I get the DA7 to even "see" the 002 at this point? The problem is that it's not recognizing anything coming into any of the cards. Right now the 002 is set as the master (at least in the ProTools program settings) but I cannot make any changes on the DA7.

Make sure the mixer not running under Automation.
with the 002 set as the master the mixer should have a [LOCKED] ADAT Lightpipe status in the D-I/O setup window.

Moving the cursor over the Slot and pressing [Enter] will execute the change.

If there's no Locked indication then you could have a condition that would require re-booting the mixer and/or checking the hardware hards and connections.

Can you set the mixer to [Int] WC and send signal through the card slots?

The WCK Master Error is flashing on the bottom left. I can make no changes to either slot one or two, both of which are unlocked. Rebooting everything in the studio doesn't change anything. I've also checked all the connections. What next?

As push comes to shove, disconnect all and reconnect until you find the culprit

I've done that and I've gotten it to the point where I'm at least passing signal. The 002 is flashing 48K now that I have it set as the master clock, but the session in ProTools is at 44.1. There doesn't seem to be a way to manually change it, and athough it says 44.1 under "hardware setup" in Protools, the 002 doesn't see it that way. When I set the DA7 as master it plays at the correct speed but sounds awful.

Well, I was up all night, but finally got it right. The sad thing is, I have no idea what was wrong or what I did to correct it. The good thing is I managed to clean up my studio.

One of the hard things about this complicated stuff, especially clock issues is that I'll go out for a few weeks playing the guitar and forget most of what I know about the studio gear. Drives me nuts.
