Nick, I should've simply recorded it in 24-bit, then let the DA7 dither to 16 for the later transfer.

I was preoccupied with the odd way the MDR is presently patched into my system: part digital, part analog...and in my haste to set up the different recording projects (songs) and transfer the prerecorded tracks from audio CD to the MDR, I blew the setting.

you might have to use DINR if your recording whispering and solo violin. but if your recording a Black Sabbath cover band there is no need for noise reduction or removal

electrok,

I hear it on everything, 15 ips or 30, 456/whatever, plus whatever, Megadeath or Yoko Ono. I love tape compression, but hate the noise, scraping sound off every pass, the differance in sound from monitering imput to playback, and ofcourse tape alignment.

But a de-noised 2nd or 3rd pass to digi kills me every time I play it.

Well actully you can copy that tape compresion to the hard drive, but then you have to de-noise it with Dinnr (digital inteligent noise reduction).

Which digital inteligent noise reduction product are you using? Can it be used as a plugin on PC's. Thanks

Rick , it would be really cool if you could put up a sample of what you were talking about. Could be just a 30 sec cut.

Jeff,

Digi. intel. niose reduction is a Pro Tools plug in. I have heard that they are working on a non TDM version like for MAS, but haven't seen one. Maybe Nick knows? I'm Digital Performer so a non PT plugin would make my transfers way easier.

Now to come back a bit, I love pristine tracks that are totally in my face with all the air my ears hear. But then again when I hear some of those old recordings where the vocal gets squeezed to where the frequencies are droping out or the pre is breaking up, I love the energy that creats, or how it conveies the energy of the performance.

H.

Jeremy, I'll try to get 'round to doing that. I still have more file-transfers to complete for the client. After that, I'll have time to dump a rough mix to MP3 to upload.
