OK, I know the Z-Systems is best, but like most high end gear, its pricey.

Is there any simple and inexpensive way to deal with the digital cable swapping that comes with owning a DA7, DAT, computer, etc?

Andrew,

Thanks for the info! Looks like most of these products are for coax connections. My setup is primarily AES/EBU. However, the FriendChip-System DMX Pro might work OK. Any idea who these guys are and who sells their products? I've never heard of FriendChip-System!

If you don't have to mult your inputs to multiple outputs you could use one of the new analog/digital patchbays from Neutrik or Switchcraft and do manual patches yerself.

If the majority of your audio devices are AES/EBU you could outfit some of the patchbay channels coming from or going to your few S/PDIF devices with transformers (as made by Aardvark) to switch between AES/EBU and S/PDIF or vice versa. They are $75 each. Essentially, your whole patchbay would be balanced AES/EBU.

Of course, you'd have to use the right cable in both instances.

And, you'd have to be careful about making the connections so you don't short anything out while making a patch, etc. for sake of digital i/o circuits.

If you can get around the problems it might just work for cheap.
