Just wondering if anyone has ever replaced the battery in the Ensoniq DP4+. I've taken
a look at it and can't tell whether it is soldered in or not - doesn't look like it. I'm not worried
about losing any user settings so I don't think any voltage would have to be sent to the
unit while the battery is changed. The info on the battery says: Panasonic BR 2032 3v
Anyone with experience? Thanks.

No particular experience with the DP4, but the CR2032 is a really popular battery for use in these types of devices (and PCs)for memory backup.

I've replaced them in a few effects. DOD/Digitech stuff tends to provide a simple slip-in mount so that you can easily replace them. A Sony effect I have had one soldered in (cheap basturds!). I de-soldered it and before replacing it, bought a slip-in mount from Radio Shack and then soldered the mount to the contacts so that I wouldn't have the problem again.

The Ensoniq KS-32 has the same battery and it's soldered in. I took the KS-32 apart thinking I'd unsolder it and replace it with a slip in mount but I was afraid I'd damage the motherboard and chickened out...

So I'm living with the low battery warning until it gives up the ghost and I have to finish the deed.

If I yanked the old battery out would I lose anything other than my User presets? I can't imagine a company making a thing that did that. The only way for me to tell whether the battery is soldered in is if I take the battery out. Never did anything like this before but I'm tempted now.

I usually just loose my presets, but I did have one multi effect that seemed to get a little squirrelly after the battery died and I replaced it. Certain functions got lost. For instance, I could not change certain global parameters and for some reason a few, seemingly random factory presets were permananetly "safe locked" against overwrites - even when I unlocked them in the utility menu - so that I could NEVER again overwrite them. (?)

I can't be sure, however, that this is related to the backup battery dieing and being exchanged. It could be a bug in the unit, just something I noticed when I wet to reprogram the thing after replacing the backup battery.

Nevertheless, that experience would not - and has not - disuaded me from changing out backup batteries when they need to be changed.
