So, am I the only one that noticed that when you use the "slate" option in the talkback section, it cuts off all inputs when ingaged?

I'm in post and need to slate to tape through the busses or master bus. But when I do this we in the control room can no longer hear the talent in the booth because the inputs are cut!!

Anybody know of any work arounds or if fixes are in the works?

I guess I'm confused. Can you explain again why the talkback has to slate to tape. Is it for I.D. referencing ?

I may be crazy, but "slate" usually blanks all inputs on most "recording" consoles. It sends the slate mic to all outs, hence the meaning of slate. That is also why it is an option.

My understanding is that "slate" cuts off the inputs so you don't walk yourself into a feed back loop.

On larger consoles slate can be sent to your choice of outputs...aux's, busses, 2 track sends in any combination. When the the slate mic is engaged the studio monitors need to dim in order that feedback should not occur. It is not necessary to cut the inputs at all although some may feel that by cutting the inputs you are assured of getting your message through without the talent banging and thumping around.

I am somewhat mystified by your need to slate *and* hear the talent. Why is this important to you? Are you trying to leave the slate mic locked on?
If the talkback operated that way I'd see a big problem.... but slate?

Please clarify your objective

My feature request:

Only monitor B should drop the L/R level. Monitor A gets the full mix regardless of the talkback status.

For me, this would solve my issues.

That's why you select "MON B" instead of "SLATE" in the solo/monitor edit window, or am I missing something.

Eh... I'm on a slightly different topic. I'm not commenting on "slate" specifically. I just don't want the levels to drop in the booth.

I would love to see a real adjustable DIM setting on the talkback module. It is a pain as a "push to talk, release to listen" system.

any other thoughts?

OK it is very simple.

Talent is in the booth, Client is in the control room. We are doing a simple VO to DAT.

I need my slates to go to tape. which the talkback button achives. BUT . . . I, and my client also need to have a regular conversation with the talent in the booth in order to direct them. So, yes the talkback mic stays open while talent is directed.

Hope that clarifies the objective
