Hi all,
I'm so confused about these aux's.
Dumb question of the year: If I use an insert (TRS to TS & TS) cable, plugging the TRS end into AUX SEND 3/4, and the TS ends into the IN and OUT of an effect (in this case, an Aural Exciter 204), what connects to the AUX RETURN 3/4? Thanks.

The TS and TS on the Aux send cable will be Aux 3 Send and Aux 4 Send.

You need another Insert cable to connect from the FX outs to Aux 3 and Aux 4 return TRS on the DA7.

I Hope this helps

AUX 3/4 and AUX 5/6 sends and returns are paired on the Rear Panel connectors.

If you wish to use them as Mono channels, connect a standard audio “Y” cable to split the audio channels.

To get mono AUX 3/4 sends I should use a TRS to TS & TS, one TS to each effect input, but to get the returns stereo would I use a TRS to TRS from each effect out to AUX 3/4 and AUX 5/6? (honestly, I understand a lot about this board, these aux's just stump me).
Thanks.

Connect the returns exactly like you did with the sends.

To use a pair of returns in stereo, you link them in their channel windows.

To summarize:

Aux 3/4 and 5/6 are sent as pairs on Tip/Ring of TRS jacks.

Aux 3/4 and 5/6 are returned as pairs on Tip/Ring of TRS jacks.

It just saves jacks when using unbalanced signals, which is why Pana did things this way.

Jack,
Unlike the Mon A outs which are balanced (2 signals conductors and a shield), the Aux in's and out's are unbalanced (1 conductor and a shield).
On a balanced 1/4"TRS, Tip is high, ring is low and sleeve is ground. In an unbalanced world TS, tip is high and sleeve is ground (ring is not used). The Aux's use tip as left high, ring as right high and sleeve as left and right shield.
A little thing to remember is "ring, right, red, return" On most mixers the ring is the return on an insert jack (DA7 also), red is always right, and ring is right on an unbalanced TRS like the DA7 aux's.
The TRS to TS/TS cable just breaks that out to two norman TS connectors. Hope this makes it clearer.

Aural Exciter in my ears sounds more like insert-point-device than aux-device. like an outboard compressor or eq. try that also.
