While upgrading from ver 1.02 to ver 2.0.1 using Windows 98 upgrading proccess was through around 60 to 70% suddenly there was a power failure so the upgrade got interrupted.

So now when I switched ON the mixer I get only the blue screen. As per the trouble shooting guide. I tried to continue my upgrade but now I am getting an error message like follows
"Communication error , confirm a connection".

I am sure that my upgrade cable is right and my computer is also working alright. Since I connected the same cable and computer to my another DA-7 Mixer where it shows the verision no of that mixer as ver 1.02. (Which I did't try to upgrade)

I will be greatful if anybody can help me out at the earliest since my work is getting affected.

There's information in the Upgrade Utility Supplement that can be downloaded with the Upgrade Utility application.

It clearly states that the DA7 can be upgraded even if the operation was interrupted.

Make sure that you are selecting the .MOT file as the upgrade file when prompted by the P.C.

Several end users on this site have expierenced the same problem but were able to recover successfully...good luck

Troubleshooting
Although it is rare, under some circumstances you may experience problems with the
upgrade procedure. The most common problems arise when there is an interruption
to the transmission of the data. This can be caused by a power failure, or by
accidentally removing the upgrade cable during the upgrade process.
If this occurs, you will probably end up with a blue screen on the DA7 and it will not
operate. However, you can still upgrade the DA7 in the following manner.
1) Power on the DA7. (The DA7 displays only a blue screen.)
2) Open the Upgrade Utility and restart the upgrade procedure. Follow all the
directions in the upgrade procedure, but do not perform any functions that
require you to operate the DA7.
3) Once you have started the procedure, you will see the bar graph transmitting
in Step7, but the READ button and WRITE buttons on the Top Panel may
not light or flash, or may flash in a unnatural pattern. This is normal.
4) You may also have to perform the above procedure several times, because
you have to re-synchronize the Upgrade Utility and the internal processor of
the DA7. Rest assured that it will perform the upgrade once this
synchronization takes place.
If the message “It can’t be connected with DA7. Confirm the port setting.” or
“Communication error. Confirm the connection.” is displayed, check the following:
Connections
• Confirm if the correct type of cable is being used.
• Confirm that the DA7 and the computer are connected with the correct port settings.

Dear Maric thanks for your quick response.

Yes, I had selected the V201r05.mot file, is it right. And I had read those supplements manual several times and tried my best but no luck.

I would like to know whether the error message what i am getting is a normal one I should ignoreit and wait for 22 minutes or so to get the upgrade . Kindly let me know.

KANKALPANA,

If the DA7 was configured correctly in the MIDI Setup window then the software should handshake and come back with the current version of software in the DA7.

Getting a "can't confirm a port setting" is an indication that your ports are not selected correctly or that you baud rate is not right.

I would try again with another P.C. or laptop with only one com. port if you can't confirm that the port setting are correct.

I would go forwrd with the Upgrade procedure if the application will let you select [UPGRADE] from it's menu...

I don't think that you can hurt anything by going a head with this procedure.

I don't think that we've ever lost a DA7 during the Upgrade in the U.S. todate.

Dear Maric,
My Baud rate setting is 38.4K,Port is Com1 and Send and Receive channels are 01.
with the above settings only I did my upgrade which was progressing till 60-70% last time without any problem.

Now also I am using the same above setting and I am getting "Communication Error. confirm a connection and restart DA7" error message is coming. During my upgrage process.

Backup and Restore Buttons are not getting enabled they are Inactive.

No problem, the Upgrade Button is getting enabled and when I press it asks for the .mot file and I am entering V201r05.mot file. Then Upgrade message says Unknow to V2.01 when I Press Ok, Upgrade Message pops up saying to power On DA7 while pressing SELECT+ON+1 while powering ON ( I am not touching the Mixer buttons) and pressing the OK button in PC.

Again upgrade Message pops saying that Previous DA7 software will be erased and I am saying OK then the Erasing timebar appears and after a short while the error message pops saying "Communication Error. Confirm a connection and restart DA-7".

I had tried the above upgrade more than 10 to 15 times both switching ON/OFF the DA7. Or leaving the DA-7 ON and trying to switch OFF my Upgrade program and then switching it On and tried to upgrade but the same above error appears.

KANKALPANA,

Maybe your software is corrupt. Try reloading it from this site...at this point what do you have to lose?

Is it possible that you blew something to do with your serial port? I've seen strange things happen after power outages - computers working fine for a while, and then crashing. We usually had to replace motherboards and even some peripherals.

Hope you get the upgrade going,

charlie

Check your cable too.

I had a bent pin on the 8-pin side of the cable and it gave me the same error message.

I hate when that happens.

We are also using the same da7 mixers two nos in tandem mode. When we tried to upgrade our mixer from ver.1.02 to ver.2.0.2 with windows 98 PC version we end up with the same problem as follows.
1."COMMUNICATION ERROR.CONFIRM THE CONNECTION".
We carefully checked up the cables and connections of com.port of the computer.Everything seems to be o.k.Now our mixer displays only blue screen when we switch it ON.We also gone through da7 user group message board. We happen to see the same problem for KANKALPANA.
We will be very gratefull if any member of da7 user group can help in rectifing the problem.

The DA7 is most likely set up correctly, from when you were able to load to 60%. If the power was intrerrupted then the da7 needs to be put into flash upload mode. You will not be able to see this since the display is out.

With the power off, hold down the ("Select" + "Master" + "1" ) and keep them depressed while turning the power on. Wait a few seconds, then press the REW (<<) key once then the Enter key once. You will be in upload mode. Try to load the software again.
