Hey guys, I've been working on a marathon project and I'm losing perspective, so I'm just looking for some general feedback if you have time. Really just on the mixing. I am aware that a couple of the songs are over-the-top arrangement wise. One of these songs has 84 active voices! Here is 3 tracks. My favorite out of these is "Rain".

Thanks!

I find you can use about any mic properly placed in front of almost any monitor to get as much feedback as you would like. Just move it around to get your desired frequency and move it closer or further for the desired amount of pain and hair raising! Simple!

Downloading tracks now ... smile

From first listen (on a non-pro system, but one that I use daily while I work), the first thing that jumps out at me is the vocal. It jumps out (a bit too hot), and feels really shrill - to the point of distraction. I don't know if just pulling it back a few db will help it sit in, or just eqing out the high shrills and leaving it at that level a bit warmer is the right solution, but I would try them both.

The music side of everything sounds good. It seems a littly boomy in the 250-400 range, but that CAN be my listening system - it has problems in that area sometimes.

Sorry I don't have a chance at the moment to put it up on real monitors - getting ready for a trip.

Wow. Gone are the days when you would get 14 responses in 12 hours.

Thanks Joe, I agree that the vocal is a little hot. Client wants it that way. I'm hoping mastering will tame it down a little.

Cool Mike.
If the music has merit... {and there's some interesting stuff here, especially Prodigal Son IMHO}, it's far easier not to slip into, pick it apart mode and just enjoy it.
Production is slick without being distracting or the tunes relying on it. Great job on that. In spite of the vocal being a little too hot, mixes are very well balanced, too. Top to bottom.
Only thing I hear, is in the drums. Snare sounds odd in a way that's hard to describe. It's as if the strainer side doesn't change as much dynamically, as the top head. Softer hits, the strainer really pokes thru which makes the snare sound paper thin in places. At first, thought this might be a combination of original snare and something else, triggered.
But don't know. Still... very nice stuff.

Take off about 10% more of your triggered sound. I always mix and then at the end look at the things that are the 'slick' side or produced side like pitch correction, drum triggers, guitar effects, reverbs and I back them down about 10% at what they were. I'm trying to force myself these days to apply less photoshop and airbrushing to the picture and let the zits and pimples show through :-) I get a lot of wow that sound is organic and stuff like that but I think people are getting away from listening to the over-baked. All that said I don't think this is over-baked and I agree with 'balanced, dynamic' and 'creative' and I would add if he went any where else he would be loosing out. :-) Hope business is busy for ya!

Oh I'm working with Tyrone Wells and his wife (Universal) so maybe I'll post some mixes when I get the BGV's and main vocal down.

Thanks guys. BTW, there is no trigger on the snare or bass drum.
