I'm looking for a reliable and quiet multi bay (2-4 SATA drives) enclosure for a Mac. Preferably with multiple interface (FW400/800, USB, SATA).

Thanks!

Definitely not anything from Sans Digital. (I lost $1000 on their 4-bay SATA unit which never worked right on my Mac. They refused to return my $$ ... just kept sending me different cards which kept freezing my Mac on wake-up).

If you want a RAID enclosure, look at www.drobo.com. I have a standard four-drive Drobo to store long-term stuff.

I just buy cheap crap enclosures. The expensive ones I've bought over the years haven't fared any better.

It's unbelievable .... just two hours ago I lost another HD. Less than 2 years old, 1TB (2x500) unit by Western Digital. All my samples on it..... ! WTF is going on? looks like now I have 6 bare drives with nothing to run them.

I recently got turned onto these little guys. Not exactly what you are looking for, but they are AWESOME. 7200 RPM, small as can be, FW 800/400 or USB 2 and 100% buss powered. I'm immediately getting a 250GB for a "floater" drive and I imagine that it won't be the last.

I have used Other World Computing (macsales.com) enclosures and drives for several years. High quality, good prices.
