It's a hardware box with a software front end. I use a pile of ancient 2.8GHz P4s connected by Vienna Ensemble Pro to do what it's doing.

(Edit: ...which isn't a comment for or against that unit - I've never tried it.)

They seem to be saying that the VFX software supplies some type of software wrapper or bridge for Windows coded VST's to be played in the Mac OS - WITHOUT the hardware they also supply as a stand-alone VST player:

"That means you can now load and play nearly every Windows VST plug-in directly in Mac OS X and route the audio signals to your favorite sequencer (e.g. via Soundflower). You don’t need the V-Machine hardware to play your Windows VST plug-ins on your Mac!

Hm. Interesting.

I still wouldn't have any reason to use that, since there aren't any Windows-only plug-ins I want to run -everything I use comes in VST and RTAS for Mac and PC, and AU for Mac as well. And I'd want to know that the wrapper is efficient.

But I'm sure the people who developed it had a reason for doing it, and it is a cool trick.

I'm going to try it. If nothing else, I'll save some electricity by not running another PC.

One question, how do you install VST plugs on a Mac? Most of my VSTs have Windows Installers - do these run from within the program?
