Have you seen Travis Barker on his last tour? I think that's the closest to a hovercraft we can hope for at the moment

It appears to be flying in ground-effect at 1.5 meters (just under five feet).

That's good over a body of water, assuming it's reasonably smooth. (I wouldn't try it over open ocean.) Unfortunately, it may be impossible to fly overland, where there are lots of low obstacles.

Then there's the issue of one's hovercraft being full of eels.

It looks to me like the pioneer will have arrows in its back. If this takes off (yuk yuk) then the idea will be refined to be more practical.
