So what mics would you guys use to record a collapsing building? I prefer a simple SM57, as it captures the sounds of thermite explosions with astounding clarity.

Actually, some surface mount mic's - like some SM91's. You just place them on each floor, near the explosive charges. If it wasn't for union regulations, you could probably get the black ops people to place them when planting the charges!

Hey, how come the IRS building that that dude flew his small plane into Thursday filled with jet fuel collapse in a controlled fashion? I thought every time a building was on fire it collapsed?

Maybe it was made of something stronger than structural steel, since we all saw what happens to steel buildings when planes hit them?

Maybe it did collapse, but the building was so short, we just didn't notice?

Maybe this particular brand of jet fuel burns less hot, and the entire frame of the building wasn't weakened enough?

Maybe my IRS records are in there, and they wanted to make sure I get my return?

Maybe no one could actually document any definitive duration for the collapse because it is still slowly collapsing right now?

Maybe the laws of physics actually held up this time?

Maybe a commission should be formed, and they should run computer models to show how the building was damaged, in great detail. Then, right at the point where any other building would've collapsed into a pile of dust particles and rubble, they'll stop the simulation and say, "it just didn't happen, accept it".

Nah......

If the pilot was an Arab, would they call this terrorism?

Boys, boys, boys... It wasn't a JET > No Jet fuel (what is the difference between jetfuel and avgas?)...It was a small prop plane. The building did burn though, so I'm not sure why the building didn't pancake into itself. Did they find any thermite/thermate in the basement?

Yes, different fuel produces different fire.

That old shit the cavemen invented with wood is nothing like the stuff we make today. smile

SM57 would be a good choice, or you could use the 58 because of the pop filter.

I recommend a RadioShack Hands-Free Tie-Clip Omnidirectional Electret. Just clip it onto your bow tie as you position yourself about 4-6 feet from the dynamite to catch all the upper harmonics. It's only $26.49 ... so fairly inexpensive to replace if evaporated while tracking.
