Mine is to give me flexibility with MS recording.

How about you?

Mine is the double phase-reversal technique in which you reverse the phase of the left side 180 degrees twice. It makes the sound fat, warm, and punchy.

I like to reverse the phase of the drummer by having him strike the drums from the bottom side and then record with all mics with the phase flipped so that its back to normal.

Flipping the phase on the kick going to the monitors (or ears) increases the perceived volume ... great trick.

Does he have to play the track backwards, too?

reversing the phase of the click in the L/R of the headphones for better click cancellation during tracking.

Confession: I'm a little drunk reading and replying to this... Does this work? I can see how maybe it could, but I'm second guessing myself and the overwhelming sarcasm of this forum... Be kind if I'm stupid. ;^)

"better click cancellation during tracking"

If you can master Beat Detective, there's NO need for a click track at all.

How about reversing the phase on a guitar pickup - one of my guitars has a switch for it. 1st rule of guitar sounds - there are no rules.

Beat Detective rules! And if Zumbido kept on on his Pro Tools versions, he'd know that Pro Tools 7.4's Beat Detective has improved sensitivity/accuracy!

You can easily improve errant beats by quantizing audio to your session’s Bar|Beat grid, or to grooves extracted from other audio or MIDI performances using Beat Detective™, which offers better peak detection accuracy than ever before. You can also fine-tune “Elasticized” regions with precision control over each individual beat using the new warp track view and warp markers — you can even make the same precise changes across multiple grouped tracks while preserving timing offsets in multitrack recordings, such as with drums.

"7.4's Beat Detective has improved sensitivity/accuracy!"

5.1 --> 7.4? I would hope so.

I record trigger pulses. Vintage Beat Detective works just fine. It's a lot more 'analog' and 'woody' sounding than this new prosumer garbage.

I face away from the monitors while mixing. It bugs clients, but it doesn't faze me in the least.
