It's already started... here's a WSJ article:

Companies Hang Up On Apple's iPhone

Yeah, its hard to imagine the iPhone over taking the Blackberry or possible the Palm treo email thing (I don't use either so my comments might not mean sh*t)

With the iPhone the question for me is "how seamless will the user interface be". Its when you try to make an all in one device the possibility of failure rises.

In all honesty, I have no clue how it will do. It's WAY more than a phone... so... we'll just have to see how this shakes out.

Personally, it's a far too new technology for me to buy into... I would wait for the next generation iPhone to come out before I jumped on board.

My 2 cents,

AK

It's a $500 gadget, no? I just need a reliable phone. It helps if it can back up your numbers to your PC in case you lose it. I suppose an mp3 player would be cool, but my phone already does that, and I rarely use that feature.

One interesting question comes to mind- Why does my phone play mp3s out of the speaker, but a dedicated mp3 player, like the ipod, has no speaker?

Does the iPhone have a speaker? That is an interesting question. I use the speakerphone on my Treo all the time.

I'm not saying this to apologize for the iPhone's compatibility issues with corporate servers, just in general: I couldn't possibly check email on my cell phone. Even if I download the first 5k of every message, I get 200 spams a day. It's just not feasible, even at 3G speeds - which are slow most places anyway, despite the hype.

Apple announced the other day that the battery life is going to be longer than they previously announced.

Are they still engineering this thing? And it goes on sale in a little more than a week? So with manufacturing lead times and distribution, that gives them, what, 10 minutes to shake the thing out? How many bugs is this bomb going to have?

They also announced that the touch screen surface will be glass and not plastic as previously announced. Again, how long have they given themselves to test this thing in real-world situations? It's insane to be making these types of announcements so close to launch.

A buddy of mine knows an Apple researcher who is actually beta-testing the iPhone... and yes.. they are always looking to improve on stuff... even a week before release... and even after it is released. That is why I'm going to wait for the 2nd generation iPhone.

My opinion.

Then offer your services to them as a consultant, since you obviously know so much. Tell them how every product they've ever come out with sucks and the only reason they're making money hand over foot is that people are really stupid.
