Some time back, within the past year or so, I ran across a feature in one of the engineering mags (Mix, EQ, EM, etc...I don't remember which one) that tested various combinations of Wordclock generators and converters. For example, they would take something like the Apogee PSX-100 (?not sure about those numbers) and use the Lucid Clock combined and then review the sound (I just made this one up, but that is the approach taken). I am asking if anyone knows or remembers the exact magazine and date of this feature. I am looking to buy a clock and/or pair of A/D converters. Thanks for any help.

You're in luck.
EQ Mag. Volume 12 ,Issues 7,8,9,and 10, feature an ongoing series by David Frangioni on studio sync and word clock. Issue 9(october, I think) was the one that discusses the benefits of the Aardsync....All 4 articles are pretty good, but only a page long. I personally recommend looking back at the great threads right here on our forum, where Dung Beetle Master Hesford takes an AardsyncII apart with a toothpick and some dental floss, and compares microscopic .wav files using a speculum and a magnifying glass......

Envoid, I coould only find issue 8 in looking through my stacks of mags, and there was nothing I could find on clock...maybe I just didn't look close enough...? But, this is not what I am looking for. There was a specific feature (publication not in memory) that was several pages and included real studio tests of hooking up various models of clocks and converters and then evaluations of the audio quality. Still looking...thanks.

I found it --Audio Media April 2001. But, it is not as in depth as I remembered. they only evaluate 3 different converters and 4 clocks. the best sounding combination was the Sony 3348 HR converters (20 bit!!) and the Aardsync II. But the numbers for grading are VERY close. OK...more research...
